Ngâm hoa đậu biếc trong nước nóng, sau đó cho nửa phần gạo nếp vào. Nửa phần gạo còn lại ngâm nước ấm bình thường trong vòng 30 phút.
Chắt nước phần gạo, cho vào khuôn vuông 15x15 cm hoặc khuôn loaf 15cm. Nước cốt dừa hoà loãng với nước, thêm 1 ít muối, sau đó đổ vào khuôn, trộn đều với phần gạo nếp. Thắt nút 2 cọng lá dứa đặt bên trên, hấp xôi trong vòng 20 phút. Lấy ra, nén lại phần xôi cho thật chặt.
5 đến 6 lá dứa cắt nhỏ xay nhuyễn với 60ml nước. Sau đó lọc vắt lấy 50ml nước cốt. Trứng đánh tan với đường sau đó cho bột mì, bột bắp vào, trộn đều với hỗn hợp trứng.
Cho nước cốt dừa và lá dứa vào, trộn đều sau đó đặt lên bếp lửa vừa, khuấy liên tục đến khi kem trứng đặc lại nhưng vẫn có tính chảy. Lọc qua rây đổ phấn kem lá đưa vào khuôn, hấp lửa nhỏ để tránh phần kem bị rỗ khí.
Để xôi nguội hoàn toàn sau đó để lạnh khoảng 2 tiếng để lớp kem đông hoàn toàn thì lấy ra khỏi khuôn, cắt thành từng miếng và thưởng thức.
